Are some people (Say, Rick K) paid to influence elections by posting on the internet?

stthomasonsax asked:

I see a lot of suspicious voting patterns and a lot of suspicious posting patterns on here. I wonder if some political campaigns or political parties have people trying to shape public opinion by being disproportionately loud and ubiquitous on the internet.

For instance, I’m 99% certain Rick K works for Rudy Giuliani. Nobody likes Rudy Giuliani that much. None of Rudy Giuliani’s wives liked Rudy Giuliani that much.

I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist, it just seems odd that there are people who seem to sit around and jump on the same angle of every debate over and over again. That’s not how people generally like to use their free time.

If I were trying to run a slick grassroots-looking marketing campaign for a presidential candidate and I had millions of dollars in corporate money to work with, I’d certainly try to work the internet that way.

What do you guys think?
And if there are paid shills out there, what we can do to identify them and make people aware of them?

  1. No. Paid to post is a fantasy.

  2. Sure think so too!!! Politics is big, hard business and they will do just ANYTHING to get more power or to get done whatever they want…

Most of the time, it’s hard to proove though… Sometimes they are caught (Watergate!)…

  3. Sure. I’m absolutely positive there are paid shills for both parties on here. Maybe even some for Ron Paul. PNAC Penelope fit the bill as well..she would post the same scripted questions over and over. She got banned tho…

  4. A few politicians do have operatives on the net, but they mostly engage in blogging as a means to generate support. However, many special interest groups (MoveOn, for example) have supporters who regularly troll the net and either stir up controversy against opponents or support for their favorites.

  5. Where do I apply. I could use some extra cash.

  6. delusions of grandeur inspire many to post on forums such as this. it allows them the illusion of being part of something greater than themselves. to mis-lead and mis-inform is power. back when rove and his flying monkeys were a formal entity in the current administration, they were capable of steering “the debate” by their carefully orchestrated manipulation of media. the beat goes on.
